Wedding at The Harbour | Christine + Jamie

It was a windy day at the Harbour Restaurant but what else is new in Kingston and according to their wedding doughnut cake platter thingy, it was the best day ever! And certainly, it was the best day ever. All weddings are right? It’s such a joy to spend 1 day a week with a different couple, experiencing their best day ever. Christine and Jamie’s wedding was my 23rd this year alone, but was just as special as the first and as fun as the first one ever back in 2010. With one wedding left in my editing queue for this year, I sit here and realize how amazing it is that I get to experience this over and over again. Does it get boring? NOPE. It can’t, it’s the best day ever right?! What’s more, I’ve shot a ton of weddings at the Harbour and even with the same backdrop, each one is unique and special in it’s own way.

So what was special about this one? Well, my answer will be different than Christine and Jamie’s which will be different than what most of their guests would probably say, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that it was special. For me, it’s always the people. The people attending the wedding, the couples, the parents, the friends and all the stuff that happens as a result of stuffing a room full of happy people. I photograph interaction, moments between moments and if the sun is setting, I steal the couple away from the reception so they can have a moment to themselves during the most beautiful part of the day. Sure, my reason is because sunset photos are awesome, but I know it’s special for the couple to have that time to themselves during the day…even though there’s some sweaty photographer there shooting that moment! The first photo in this blog is special. They are walking back to the reception after doing some portraits out on the rocks with the lake in the background. It’s not the shot we set out to make, but I know for a fact that they will always remember how they felt in that moment when they look back at this image. That’s my job. My mission. And, it’s this kind of image that makes this the best day ever for me.

Like all of the other amazing days I’ve been a part of, this one wouldn’t have been the same without the local vendors who contributed their specialties. So here are some high fives! Lovebird Bridal for the dress, you get a high five. Chartreuse Flowerworks for the ever amazing florals, you get a high five. Dolce Bella Spa for the hair and make up team, you all get high fives. Suzy Q Doughnuts for the “cake”, you get a high five. And the guests…you guys get spirited high 10s because you played the biggest role!
