Red House Engagement | Heather & Sébastien

She spotted him from across the harvest table at Red House one evening. She knew there was something about him. His friends finally convinced him to go talk to her. Fricken’ love story! Heather and Sébastien told me their story as they sipped a beer at the Red House on rainy fall day and all I could think was, oh crap, how am I going to make images that even come close to doing that story justice! Turns out, it was pretty easy. You see, the way these two look at each other is other worldly. There is so much realness in these photos and the smiles have nothing to do with me telling them to smile. It’s all real. All love. What a rush, photographing a couple in the very spot they met one evening in such a classic way.

With liquid courage in place, we strolled the beautiful downtown Kingston in the pouring rain. It never let up and it was cold. Solution? Sparkling wine. They sipped beneath their umbrella, laughed, kissed and joked while I tried to keep my camera from short circuiting! With a bit more liquid courage under their belts and me thinking that these two would be up for anything, I suggested they stop fighting the rain. Get soaked. “Is this good, Rob”? …no, more! “OK, lolz”. Seriously, how lucky am I that my couples trust my vision enough that they’ll stand in the rain on a cold fall afternoon until they are totally soaked, just because I thought it would look awesome. And, it did. We concluded the session with these shots and I can’t get over the romantic feeling they invoke.
