I have the pleasure of shooting weddings throughout all four of our beautifully distinct seasons but to the masses, summer is wedding time. Well, Jen and Scott’s Discovery Centre Wedding most definitely marked the start of summer weddings in my calendar. Not just because of it’s mid-June date, but because it was hot. Like, cook eggs-on-the-sidewalk-hot. But, I’m not complaining, no, not at all. I love it! Bring on the heat and bring on the summer weddings. Summer has a way of putting smiles on people’s faces and enhancing the wedding atmosphere because people just want an excuse to have a good time outside with friends and family. As a photographer, damn, that’s a pretty cool thing to be a part of. Now, for my winter, spring and fall peeps, don’t even think about having FOMO because your seasons have super special and unique offerings that I’m stoked to be a part of too. But for now, let’s vibe on summer!
Actually, let’s vibe on Jen and Scott! They opted for a first look which meant getting ready separately so my day started with documenting the girls getting prepped at the unbelievably gorgeous All Suites Whitney Manor. Seriously, what an amazing building, overflowing with class, luxury and character. I might be paraphrasing here slightly, but Jen grew up not too far from this place and affectionately called it the castle as a kid so what better reason to finally go inside than the morning of your wedding day. I for one am ecstatic that I got to visit the castle! The guys got ready at home where the other camera dude, Luke, photographed the antics, the scotch and the googling of how the heck to fold a pocket square! Then, they all embarked into the limo and joined us at the suites for the first look to take advantage of the amazing backdrop the Manor has to offer. Well, maybe the reason was so that the limo driver could pick up the girls and take them to the Discovery Centre, but the backdrop makes it a win-win.
Alright, no tears shed, make-up in tact but an emotional reveal just the same. With both outfits approved, it was time for a few photos under the scorching sun before we all hit Hwy 2, en route to Jen and Scott’s beautiful Discovery Centre wedding ceremony. Friends and family gathered on the epic patio, overlooking Lake Ontario all while trying to huddle in the shade, staving off sun kissed foreheads! With the ceremony about the get underway, the groomsmen ushered people to their seats and offered fans to keep things cool. Beautiful ceremony. Beautiful words. Beautiful backdrops of the fort, the lake and the breathtaking floral arch from In Bloom. Perfect.
The fun continues! We got special access to Fort Henry following the ceremony for bridal party and portrait time which was awesome and obviously as photogenic as my subject manner! We cruised around the fort until we had a nice little collection of photos before re-joining the guests for the reception full of spirited speeches, amazing food and dancing under the stars. Two cheers for summer weddings! Hip Hip!
As I close out the words part of this blog post, let me take a sec to thank the other vendors, who’s contributions made this day what it was. Jen’s amazing gown came from none other than Lovebird Bridal, the beautiful florals as mentioned above came from In Bloom, super stylish hair-dos from Liz Wing from The Loft Hair Studio and make-up from Kingston’s finest Laceface Makeup, transportation in the stretch SUV from Byers Limousine, beats from my main man Carlos Mr. Solo of Future Vibes and last but not least, 2nd camera work from Kroeker Photo. Now, let’s dig in!
