Weddings at Berholme Farm are a relatively new thing. As the info was trickled down to me, I hear that the owners did up their barn for their own daughter’s wedding a couple years ago and then decided they might as well open it up to the public. Damn good idea! They did a bang up job, sure to please any outdoor loving couple. Lots of exposed wood, a beauty interlocking stone floor and more field than your photographer has time to work with! Oh yes, some epic portraits in those fields went down for Amanda and Xavier! So yes. Future brides, put Berholme Farm on your your list of places to check out.
But, this wedding had something even more special. RAIN! SUN! RAIN! Seriously, when the weather was on, it was so on and when it was not, it was really not! There were tornado warnings in the area and while we were lucky enough to not get swept away, we did benefit from some pretty beautiful skies as often happens after storms clear. Pretty exciting stuff and definitely an element of Amanda and Xavier’s wedding day that they will never forget. Thankfully they took it all in stride, didn’t mind getting wet and so we explored the grounds with umbrellas resulting in the most dramatic portraits my camera has produced, possibly ever.
The spirit that Amanda and Xavier possessed didn’t stop there. Their friends and family were equally down for whatever the day was willing to throw their way. We all huddled in the barn trying to stay dry, joking around, eating some awesome buffet and listening to speeches. Then, it was party time and let me tell you, things escalated quickly! This crowd destroyed the dance floor and it was wicked fun for everyone involved, especially me. You’ll see once you scroll down!
And then, the power went out. Yup, the storm cut the electricity and it just never came back on. Yet another epic memory for Amanda and Xavier and one that the guests are surely still talking about. We stayed and danced by cell phone flashlight for a while, then they litterally tango’d out of the joint, smiling ear to ear. I’d drop the mic, but there’d be no sound.
