After having the opportunity to photograph Lindsay and Alana’s engagement session on their mountain bikes at sunset, I wasn’t sure life as a photographer could get much better. Then, their bike themed wedding at the Ivy Lea Club in the 1000 Islands happened. Being the true bike nut that I am and a lover of the outdoors, this wedding was unbelievably fun to shoot. There were bike bells, tires painted white and sculpted wire bikes at each table! Instead of the cliché clinking of glasses to get the couple to kiss, the people were asked to ring their bike bells instead! Bike bells bring out the kid in everyone, so you can imagine that the bells rung often. So, there’s that, but let’s talk about the people because after all, weddings are about the people. The love in the room was overwhelming and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t holding back tears of joy for these two as I documented the amazing moments that unfolded in front of me. The brides were relaxed and not surprisingly, up for adventure when it came time to do their portraits. We were out on the dock, in the forest, down in the wine cellar and I even convinced them that it would be a good idea to lie down on the floor! Back at the reception there were touching speeches, funny speeches and a song that would make any parent turn to mush. Then, there were giant games that Alana handmade with Lindsay’s Dad that were no end of fun for the guests out on the patio, possibly even more fun for me to shoot! And, last but not least, the party. Oh, the party! The guests boogied down pretty hard, people were being swung about and the most spirited rendition of Mustang Sally I have ever seen was performed by Lindsay’s uncle. ‘Nuf said!
So how do I wrap this up? Maybe I’ll just ring my bike bell! Kissssss…
